135 miles west of Charlotte, NC, 277 miless east of Nashville, TN, and 178 miles northeast of Atlanta, GA, Canton is the second largest town in Haywood County, North Carolina. The Evergreen Packaging Canton Paper Mills is located in Canton North Carolina, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, less than half an hour from the city of Asheville and its cultural benefits. It is one of the largest industrial employers in western North Carolina. Opened in 1908, Canton produces paperboard for refrigerated gable-top cartons, cupstock and uncoated freesheet for envelopes. The Canton Mill employs approximately 1000 team members and has played a significant role in the environmental and social history of the area. The Project Engineer, will be responsible for providing Engineering Project Support, which includes technical and machine troubleshooting support for the Canton Mill They will also be responsible for working on a team of engineers as they develop, test, modify, and create solutions to technical problems. The candidate must have basic knowledge in all facets of engineering, capital requests, procuring equipment and services, installation of new equipment, working with vendors and contractors, and paper mill process trouble shooting. Under general direction, they will be responsible for all phases of large engineering projects, from planning to implementation. The Project Engineer will partner with project stakeholders to determine the scope of the project. The Project Engineer will be responsible to align project with company policies, safety and environmental standards. The Project Engineer will allocate resources and adjusts plan to meet project needs. The Project Manager will maintain project documentation for process, future maintenance, safety, environmental, and other policy compliance and manage a projects team
JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.
Develop capital requests, RFP’s, bids, and recommend vendors. Hire vendors. Manage construction and quality control of new projects.

Understand equipment operation and function as required to determine preventive and predictive maintenance needs
Collaborates with all project stakeholders to address all issues
Provide input to the 5-year capital and infrastructure program.
Demonstrate communication and listening skills with proven ability to communicate internally and externally with all levels of the organization.
Assist operations engineers and operators in troubleshooting mechanical equipment problems.
Develop skills in paper machine technology, papermaking, and manufacturing leadership.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE
Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Paper Science, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent required;
Pulp and paper mill manufacturing and engineering experience is prefered.
Demonstrated working knowledge of controls (DCS and PLC) is desired.
Must be well organized, analytical, decisive, action oriented and a team player.
Proven safety leadership along with working knowledge of OSHA requirements and ability to combine exceptional compliance with ease of operations
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office software; AutoCad, SolidWorks, Primavera, and SAP a plus.
Ability to identify mechanical, electro-mechanical issues, diagnose and solve problems, and to apply this knowledge and experience to the design and installation of new systems.
