Responsibilities

Job Function:

Responsible for performing the job duties at the Hotpress, Floatline, Printer, and Wrapper to produce molded fiber egg cartons to customer specifications. Maintains excellent safety and housekeeping standards, and verifies quality at each assigned workstation.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Hot Press Operator

The primary job duties and responsibilities are:

  • Follows all documented safety, quality, and production procedures.

  • Responsible to ensure the continuous operation of the mechanical hot press to achieve production goals.

  • Restores flow in the event that the hot press stops or encounters issues.

  • Troubleshoot and communicates mechanical issues to the Hot Press Mechanic and management.

  • Identifies and remove defective cartons by observing the decline conveyor leading to the Hot Press and the outfeed.

  • Responsible to immediately respond to and address alarms concerning carton jams.

  • As needed, assist to hand feed cartons into the line to increase productivity and decrease scrap.

  • Demonstrates proper use of tools (e.g. dowel rods, picks)

  • Responsible to maintain excellent housekeeping standards to maintain a safe work area.

  • In the event that a printer stops, responsible to assist carton pick up at the outfeed.

  • Responsible for maintaining workstation until relieved.

  • During line start-up and during downtime, responsible to assist the clean-up of the oven area.

  • Immediately addresses and reports safety issues or hazards.

  • Maintains excellent safety record.

  • Maintains excellent attendance record.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Printer Operator

The primary job duties and responsibilities are:

  • Follows all documented safety, quality, and production procedures.

  • Responsible to verify against a visual representation of the final product to ensure all cartons are made to order.

  • Responsible to ensure the accuracy of bundles tags, including the stamp, and ensure all bundle tags are placed appropriately.

  • Communicate any quality defects to the Printer Mechanic and management.

  • Assist to wipe down plates as necessary.

  • Assist the picking up cartons on the line during downtimes.

  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards to maintain a safe work area.

  • Responsible for wrapping completed bundles.

  • Verify order paperwork and sign plate change forms.

  • Responsible for maintaining workstation until relieved.

  • During line start-up and during downtime, responsible to assist the clean-up of the oven area.

  • Immediately addresses and reports safety issues or hazards.

  • Maintains excellent safety record.

  • Maintains excellent attendance record.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

Experience required:

  • At least one year of experience in a manufacturing environment; including successful completion of jobs or similar activities requiring control of a mechanical process and inspection of product to meet quality standards.

  • Demonstrated self-compliance with company policies and procedures.

Skills

An individual must have the following skills in the Dry End Operator position:

  • Ability to work safely and to communicate with others in a professional manner.

  • Demonstrated ability sufficient to determine product quality, for example, carton malformations, color verification, and structural integrity.

  • Demonstrated hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient for product handling.

  • Ability to work well on a team.

Physical requirements

This position is located in a manufacturing location. Physical requirements will include but are not limited to:

  • Standing for lengthy periods of time (frequent)

  • Sitting for extended periods of time (frequent)

  • Climbing up/down stairs/ladders/platforms (occasional)

  • Working in a manufacturing environment that includes periods of hot and cold weather, dust, noise above 85 dBA, occasional odors, and moving equipment (frequent)

Working conditions

An individual that works in the Dry End Operator position:

  • Must be physically able to perform the essential job duties.

  • Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour schedule.

  • Works overtime as required.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

The Macon plant was built in 1967. It manufactures egg cartons, lunch trays, and shake trays. The Macon plant has approximately 218 employees. Macon was awarded World-Class Safety in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Macon also received the Operational Performance Plant of the year in 2015 and 2016 and Food Plant of the Year in 2016. The Macon plant has recently reached out to the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank and will be collecting canned and dried goods for the less fortunate.
