Responsibilities

Technician, Chip Mill – Cadron Creek Location

Overview:

The safe operation of equipment and the processes of the chip mill activities. This includes the crane, knuckle boom loader, chipper operations, barge loading (Cadron Creek), and operation of all rolling stock, performing preventative maintenance on the mill and equipment, and housekeeping.

General Duties:

  1. Operation of crane.

  2. Operation of heavy equipment.

  3. Chipper operation.

  4. Preparation and sharpening of chipper knives.

  5. Operating log haul trucks on the Woodyard.

  6. Loading mulch onto barges. (Cadron Creek Mill)

  7. General Yard maintenance and housekeeping.

  8. Wet storage installation, maintenance, and removal.

  9. General Preventative maintenance on the mill site.

Essential Functions:

· Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; will be exposed to extreme temperatures.

· Heavy lifting and climbing is required.

· Ability to work off the ground at heights approaching 80’ in the air. This work will be performed from elevated walkways, man lift, or platforms. Also must be able to operate the crane and knuckle boom loader at lesser heights while in motion.

· Must be comfortable working around water.

· The job requires participation in all of the housekeeping functions of the facility.

· Personal Protective Equipment will be provided. The employee is expected to have safety toe boots to begin employment.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.

· Must be able to read and write.

· Experience operating heavy equipment (knuckle boom loader, frontend loader, skid loader, man lift, etc.) is preferred.

· Experience performing routine maintenance on equipment is preferred.

· Must be trainable in safety and quality work processes.

· Must be able to work extended hours (10 – 14 hours per day) and/or weekends with short notice. The normal work hours at the Cadron Creek Mill are Monday – Friday, from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Saturday hours are from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Work hours may change due to needs at the chip mill.

· Must be able to be called in for emergency work and must have a phone number on record where he/she can be reached quickly.

· Must be a team player and work well with other personnel.
